Talented
Benjamin Granstrom (191-G/F-2008) had an amazing evening in the last round for
Salon Vilpas and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents 1st Division B Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 18-year old swingman had the game-high 34 points adding nine rebounds for
PeU-Basket in his team's victory, helping them to beat
Pajulahti (#10,
0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team
80-72. Thanks to this victory
Vilpas moved-up to the 3rd position in Finnish 1st Division B. But it's just the very beginning of the season and
Vilpas won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Granstrom had a remarkable 53.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be
Vilpas's top player in his first season with the team. Granstrom has impressive league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 34.0ppg. Granstrom is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 9.0rpg) and averages solid 53.3% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was guard
Alfred Pitkanen (193-G) of second-ranked
KTP Basket Kotka. Pitkanen impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Of course he led KTP-Basket to another comfortable win outscoring
HyPo (
0-1)
92-70. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Pitkanen is a newcomer at KTP-Basket and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.0ppg (#3). He also registered 12.0 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was
Jesse Javanainen (188-PG-2003) of
Turun NMKY (#4). Javanainen scored 15 points and passed 4 assists. He was a key player of TuNMKY, leading his team to a
109-69 easy win against
Raiders Basket (#11,
0-1). TuNMKY has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Javanainen also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Javanainen as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
