Italian Serie A1 round 2 best performance: Gianna Aiello

American Center Gianna Aiello (193-C) put on an amazing game in the last round for O.ME.PS Battipaglia, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The player had a double-double of 30 points and 16 rebounds, while her team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Costa Masnaga (#11, 0-2) with 21-point margin 83-62. Battipaglia is placed at 6th position in Italian Serie A1. Battipaglia is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-1 record. Aiello turned to be Battipaglia's top player in her first season with the team. Former Brown University star has very solid stats this year. Aiello is in league's top in points (8th best: 18.0ppg) and rebounds (3rd best: 12.0rpg).

The second best player in last round's games was young French Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova (193-C-1993) of Jolly Acli Basket Livorno. Cornelie-Sigmundova had a very good evening with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Livorno lost that game 74-79 to Roseto (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Cornelie-Sigmundova is a newcomer at Livorno, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Cornelia Fondren (173-G-1993) of Autosped G BCC Derthona Basket Scrivia (#3). Fondren showcased her all-around game by recording 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists in the last round. She was a key player of Scrivia, leading her team to a 98-58 easy win against Brescia (#9, 0-2). Scrivia has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Fondren also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. Fondren has a great season in Italy. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.5rpg (9th best) and assists with 6.5apg (best passer). Fondren attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on her way to pro basketball.
