Frascati Dominate the Boards to Beat Basket Roma and Reach Serie A2- June 14, 2026
POSTED BY: Eurobasket News
It is celebration time for Frascati. Coach Manuel Monetti's side controlled the women's Serie B promotion final from start to finish, overpowering Basket Roma 58-43 to earn promotion to Serie A2. For Basket Roma, the defeat is painful but not fatal: the capital club will get a second chance in a playoff against San Raffaele.
The game began at a good tempo with Frascati the sharper side, edging the first quarter 18-15 thanks to better solutions in attack and a stronger presence near the basket. The second quarter, though, was where the match turned. Frascati raised their defensive intensity, disrupting Roma's possessions while finding continuity at the other end, and a 16-9 run sent them into the break ahead 34-24 in a low-scoring, physical contest. Basket Roma came out better after halftime and played their best stretch, edging the third quarter 10-8, but Frascati never truly lost control and led 42-34 entering the final period. There, the Lazio side reasserted themselves, a 16-9 closing burst snuffing out any hope of a comeback and carrying them to the 58-43 finish. The offensive star of the final was Eveline Toyounon (196-C-2009), the game's top scorer with 17 points, well supported by Bongo Despaigne's 11 and Barbieri's 10. Diagne and Zec led Basket Roma with eight apiece. But the real story was on the glass: Frascati's 60-35 rebounding dominance, allied to 16 assists, told the tale of a more fluid and physically superior team, while Roma struggled to find any shooting rhythm. |
