NBA preseason meets EuroLeague round three: what October basketball is worth to US bettors- October 15, 2026
POSTED BY: Eurobasket
Kevin Pangos retired at 33 this month, and his career is a decent summary of how thin the line between European and NBA basketball has become. He went undrafted out of Gonzaga and spent six years overseas, making the All EuroLeague First Team in 2021, before Cleveland finally gave him a guaranteed NBA contract at 28. This October the two calendars overlap again. The EuroLeague is three rounds in, with Fenerbahce, Panathinaikos, Partizan and Valencia all unbeaten and Real Madrid somehow 0 and 3, while the NBA preseason opened on Oct. 3 when the Raptors met the Heat in Quebec City. For readers in the United States, the sportsbooks want you to notice one number, and at bet365 that number is $200. Its current bet365 bonus code offer, as tracked by RotoWire, is simple on paper: bet $10 and get $200 in bonus bets whether the first wager wins or loses. Despite the name, nobody types in a code. The offer attaches to a new account at registration, provided the first deposit is at least $10. The mechanics behind the $200The qualifying bet has to be at least $10 at odds of minus 500 or longer. It must be placed within 30 days of signing up. Once that bet settles, the bonus bets land in the account, and they expire seven days later if unused. You have to be 21 or older and never have held a bet365 account in any state. Bonus bets are not cash, and this is where the headline number shrinks. When a bonus bet wins, you keep the profit but not the stake. Put $200 of bonus bets on even money outcomes that hit about half the time, and the expected return is roughly $100 before the sportsbook's margin, a little less after it. Spreading the credit over longer odds raises the ceiling but not the average. The $10 you risked to unlock it is the only real money in the deal. The figure also changes by state. RotoWire lists $200 for Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. West Virginia gets $150, and so do Illinois and Tennessee. Indiana gets $365. New York and Massachusetts are not on the list at all, so a Knicks fan in Manhattan cannot claim it. In the four states with legal online casinos, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, new users also get 50 casino spins. Preseason is a different sport for bettorsThe NBA calendar matters more than the dollar sign. Preseason runs until Oct. 17 and the regular season starts on Oct. 20, so the next two weeks are full of games where coaches are testing rotations and limiting starters. Tonight's Knicks at 76ers preseason game in Philadelphia is a good example. Pennsylvania gets the full $200, yet in a game like this the minutes distribution will tell you more than the final score. The Mavericks and Rockets then play twice in Macao, on Oct. 9 and Oct. 11. That seven day expiry is the detail most people skip. A new account opened this week, with a qualifying bet that settles straight away, produces bonus bets that die around Oct. 13, a full week before opening night. A bettor who wants to use the credit on real regular season basketball should time the sign up for the final days of the preseason, since the first bet can wait up to 30 days. How this number comparesHere is the part the promo copy leaves out: $200 is not a tip off special. bet365 ran the same bet $10, get $200 structure in May, during the Knicks and 76ers playoff series. The number has not moved in five months. What changes is the timing, not the size. Compared with BetMGM, the difference is structure rather than scale. BetMGM's main RotoWire listed offer refunds losing bets as bonus bets, up to $100 a day for 10 days, so its $1,000 ceiling only pays out if you lose ten times. The bet365 version pays the same amount win or lose, which makes it more predictable for a casual fan, though smaller at the top end. Bettors who already chase value with the bet365 offer will get more out of studying preseason box scores than staring at the headline figure. Where European basketball fits nextThe bigger change is still a year away. The NBA and FIBA are targeting an October 2027 launch for NBA Europe, with 16 teams, 12 of them permanent franchises, and bids for those licences were reported in the $500 million to $1 billion range per city. FIBA Europe executive director Kamil Novak said recently that an announcement on markets is coming soon. If that league starts on schedule, the first week of October 2027 could put NBA branded games in European arenas in the same window as the American preseason. US sportsbooks will want to price both. For now, the smart move with any welcome credit is to treat it as a small, short lived bonus and spend it on games that count. Players like Pangos spent years proving that European basketball deserves the same attention as the NBA, and bettors would do well to read the October schedule with the same patience. |
