Offurum's 17 and Jurkovitz's double-double power Fribourg Olympic back to Swiss summit with 23rd title-May 26, 2026
Fribourg Olympic reclaimed the Swiss SB League title on Monday, dismantling Lions de Geneve 86-66 in Game 4 of the finals at the Salle Polyvalente Pommier to clinch the championship 3-1 and lift the trophy for the 23rd time in the club's storied history. After three nail-biters decided by margins of three points or fewer, the decider was anything but close. Olympic stamped their authority from the opening tip, surrendering an early 6-10 lead before seizing control with a 25-20 first quarter and never relinquishing the advantage. A 23-19 second period extended the lead to 48-39 at halftime, and a dominant 26-14 third quarter blew the game wide open at 74-53 with one period to play. The fourth quarter was a procession. Mezie Offurum (203-F-2000, college: JMU) led the champions with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting (3-of-5 from three) and six rebounds for a game-high 20 efficiency. Captain Natan Jurkovitz (202-F-1995) posted a commanding 14 points and 13 rebounds (10 defensive), along with three assists, two steals, and a block for 23 efficiency. Jonathan Williams (185-G-1996, college: VCU) orchestrated with 11 points and a game-high seven assists, while Jonathan Kazadi (195-PG-1991) added 10 (6-of-7 from the line) with three assists. Antonio Ballard (198-F-1988, college: Miami, OH) contributed 11 off the bench, and Bryan Colon (181-G-1992) was lethally efficient with 10 points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. Olympic shot 45 percent from the field (28-of-61), 47 percent from three (10-of-21), and 66 percent from the free-throw line (20-of-30) championship numbers across the board. For Lions de Geneve, coached by Patrick Pembele (187-G/F-1992), Juwann James (198-C-1987, college: JMU) and Yuri Solca (189-PG-2000) each scored 15. Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (188-G-1998, college: TWU) added 13 with four assists, Isaiah Williams (201-G/F-1992, college: Iona) had nine with five assists, and captain Noe Anabir (203-PF-1995, college: YSU) contributed eight with eight rebounds. But the hosts shot just 16 percent from three (4-of-24) and were outrebounded 46-34, deficits that proved fatal in a game Olympic controlled throughout. The title carries particular significance for coach Thibaut Petit's side. Last year, Geneva ended Olympic's run of six consecutive championships this season, the Fribourg club have answered emphatically, reclaiming the throne they had dominated for years and re-establishing themselves as Switzerland's premier basketball force.
