In season 2008-09 some teams from Superleague created their own league called UBL. The teams merged back into Superleague the following (2009-2010) season.

Azovmash lifted the Ukrainian Superleague trophy - May 25, 2009

BC Azovmash Mariupol became the Superleague champion sweeping the Final series. The favorites of the Play-offs overcame BC Donetsk 90:78 away from home to clinch the winning outcome. Dijon Thompson (201-G/F-83, college: UCLA) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Serhiy Lishchuk (210-C/F-82, agency: Beo Basket) nailed 17. Marius Prekevicius (195-F-84, agency: Interperformances, college: S.Florida) and Rolandas Jarutis (183-G-76) each had 11 while Hasan Rizvic (212-C-84) got 10 for the winning effort. Haywood Owens (204-F-79, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Texas) shined for Donetsk with 37 points and 13 rebounds.
The guests decided not to postpone the triumph and pushed the tempo for good from the very beginning. BC Azovmash Mariupol grabbed 12-2 lead, while the hosts could no match the opponents. Andres Rodriguez tried to change things for the hosts but an unstoppable Rizvic and a triple by Richard Guinn made it a 27:12 at the end of the first quarter. The favorites did not slow down in the second period and produced another 23-16 to take 50:28 advantage at the halftime. It became clear at that time that the hosts would not recover in the game.
BC Donetsk however played better in the second half. The home side closed the gap to 11 points entering the last quarter. They created a 24-14 burst in the third frame to trail only 52:64. The things could change in the last stanza but experienced BC Azovmash Mariupol held the score for good. The Winner of the Regular Season proved their superiority to lift the Ukrainian Superleague trophy with 3-0 in the Final series.

Azovmash win Ukrainian Cup

Azovmash claimed the second consecutive Cup title in Ukraine. Yesterday they sneaked past BC Kyiv in a thrilling final game to return home with yet another title.
Azovmash opened their Cup Final Four campaign with a cruising win over Pulsar 84:55. Oleksandr Skutelnyuk nailed 18 points to lead the way for the Superleague defending champions. Khalid El-Amin (178-G-79, agency: Beo Basket, college: Connecticut) contributed 16 points for the winners.
BC Kyiv had to topple BC Khimik to enter the Cup decider. Artur Drozdov (198-G-80) banked 15 points to lead BC Kyiv to an 85:60 victory.
Finally Azovmash and BC Kyiv clashed in a heated battle in the capital of Ukraine on Sunday. Aovmash looked better in the first half and piled up a 40:31 advantage at halftime. Khalid El-Amin and Dijon Thompson (201-G/F-83, college: UCLA) kept BC Kyiv at arms length in the third frame as they enjoyed a 4-point lead before the final stanza. Scoonie Penn and Clay Tucker (195-G-80, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) fueled a comeback effort from BC Kyiv early in the final period. The hosts finally jumped in front setting up a mouth-watering battle finale. Kenan Bajramovic (206-F-81, agency: Beo Basket) made it 70:69 for BC Kyiv with less than two minutes left. Jarutis answered with a three-pointer on the other end to give the lead back to Azovmash. Artur Drozdov hit two free throws and then Clay Tucker converted a jumper to ensure a 74:72 advantage for the home team with 24 seconds to go. However Azovmash found the right answer. Khalid El-Amin fed Jarutis for a massive go-ahead triple that won the game for the visitors.
Khalid El-Amin notched 23 points to lead the way for Azovmash. He was named the MVP of the Cup Final Four after the encounter. Dijon Thompson was helpful with 20 points in the win. Kenan Bajramovic accounted for 17 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.
