SBK "Liepaja"/LSSS stormed back from a 14-point deficit to defeat TTT Riga Juniores 70-54 in the Women's Baltic Basketball League (WBBL) Division II Final Four championship game on Sunday at the Komandu Sporta Spelu Zale. Maija Aploka (169-G-2008) was named the Final Four Most Valuable Player after a sensational 29-point performance in the final, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range and dishing six assists to orchestrate the comeback victory. TTT Riga Juniores, the regular season's top-ranked team, appeared in control for much of the first half, building their largest lead of 14 points at the 18th minute (37-23) and carrying a 37-31 advantage into the break. But the momentum shifted dramatically midway through the third quarter when Liepaja seized the initiative and never let go, outscoring their opponents 39-17 across the final 15 minutes. The key difference was three-point shooting. Liepaja connected on 10-of-23 from beyond the arc (43%) compared to TTT Riga's frigid 5-of-29 (17%) — a disparity that swung the game decisively once the Liepaja shooters found their range in the second half. Alongside Aploka, Enija Brokane (156-PG-2009) contributed 13 points (3-of-7 from three) and Kerlina Balode (2009) added 13 points. For TTT Riga Juniores, Marta Plorina (180-F-2008) and Zane Straudovska (186-C-2007) each scored 12 points, while Santa Ozola (173-G-2008) added 10 in the defeat. The Final Four All-Star Five featured Annija Anna Birzina (SBK Liepaja/LSSS), Zane Straudovska and Liva Hermane (175-G/F-2007) (both TTT Riga Juniores), Gintare Mazionite (Atletas, Kaunas) and Gitana Paplauskaite (177-PF-1999) (Vilniaus Oaks). In the third-place game, Lithuania's Vilniaus Oaks defeated compatriots Kaunas district's Atletas 74-59. Liepaja's route to the title was built on grit. In Saturday's semifinal, they upset second-seeded Vilniaus Oaks 65-58 despite the Lithuanian side having won both regular season meetings between the clubs. Aploka led that effort as well with 24 points, while Evelina Glazina (180-F-2008) added 12. Liepaja held a significant advantage in turnovers (15 to 26) and never trailed in the contest. TTT Riga Juniores reached the final by overcoming Atletas 84-76 in the other semifinal behind Plorina's 21-point, 11-rebound double-double and exceptional team perimeter shooting (12-of-24 from three). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
