Round 8 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Siauliai's defeat of Panevezys

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game of round 8 was a derby match between two teams from Lithuania. Eighth ranked Siauliai won against visiting Panevezys (1-2) 82-69. Strangely Panevezys outrebounded Siauliai 42-25 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kenyan center Mercy Wanyama (185-1992) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-1995, college: CBU) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Guard Kriste Timofejeva (180-1992) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for Panevezys. Siauliai (2-1) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aistes-LSMU. Newly promoted Panevezys keep the ninth position with two games lost. Siauliai will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Panevezys will play at home against the league's second-placed Neptunas (#2) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
WBBL top team - Lithuanian LCC Klaipeda (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Latvian Daugavpils (1-4) 81-50. Worth to mention a quality performance of center Gerda Raulusaityte (189-2004) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Kateryna Dike who added 16 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. LCC Klaipeda's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Polish point guard Kinga Piedel (170-1997) responded with 13 points. Undefeated LCC Klaipeda have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Daugavpils lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with four games lost. LCC Klaipeda will play against Jurmala (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Daugavpils will play against Aistes-LSMU to get more than just one victory in their record.

The winners were led by Gintare Paulauskaite who had that evening a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Aistes-LSMU's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 26 points and 7 rebounds by Zozefine Sipolina did not help to save the game for Jurmala. Aistes-LSMU moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Siauliai. Jurmala at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with BJBS Riga. Aistes-LSMU will meet at home Liepaja/LSSS (#8) in the next round. Jurmala will play against the league's leader LCC Klaipeda (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 8 Liepaja/LSSS lost to undefeated Kibirkstis-MRU on the road 60-86.
The most impressive performance of 8th round was 16 points and 6 rebounds by Taisia Udodenko of Kibirkstis-MRU.

Jurmala - Aistes-LSMU 57-77

Bottom-ranked Latvian Jurmala is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their third consecutive match to seventh ranked Lithuanian Aistes-LSMU (2-1) 77-57 on Friday evening. Aistes-LSMU outrebounded Jurmala 49-27 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Aistes-LSMU looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Jurmala's players. The winners were led by Gintare Paulauskaite (185-1995) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Gedvile Savostaite (180-2002) supported her with 12 points and 11 rebounds. WBBL top team - Lithuanian LCC Klaipeda (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Latvian Daugavpils (1-4) 81-50. LCC Klaipeda dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Daugavpils' 26 and made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. LCC Klaipeda forced 25 Daugavpils turnovers and outrebounded them 50-22 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. LCC Klaipeda players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Daugavpils' players. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when top-ranked Lithuanian Kibirkstis-MRU (2-0) crushed 7th ranked Latvian Liepaja/LSSS (2-4) in Vilnius 86-60 on Saturday. Kibirkstis-MRU dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Liepaja/LSSS's 28 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Kibirkstis-MRU forced 22 Liepaja/LSSS turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kibirkstis-MRU made 9 blocks. The winners were led by Ukrainian center Taisia Udodenko (190-1989) who scored that evening 16 points and 6 rebounds and center Livija Sakeviciute (188-1999) supported her with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Kibirkstis-MRU players scored in double figures. Even 19 points and 4 assists by Latvian guard Madara Smite (170-2006) did not help to save the game for Liepaja/LSSS. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with TTT Riga. Liepaja/LSSS lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Kibirkstis-MRU will meet at home TTT Riga (#4) in the next round. Liepaja/LSSS will play against Aistes-LSMU (#7) in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
