Australia dominated final game and wining gold! - Jul 3, 2016

Italy - Australia 38-62
Australia dominated the game for winning gold medal. They overcame Italy for 24 points. They Italians to score only 38 points for 40 minutes of the game while Australia score 62 which was enough for winning most shiny medal of the tournament. Starting five for Italy scored only 8 points on the game in the most important game of the tournament, which was just not enough for Australia who dominated every single part of the game winning every quarter. They also was better in rebounds then Italy (41-27). Jasmine Simmons (163-G-99, college: Rock Valley JC) scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds for MVP performance of the game, she was followed by Eziyoda Magbegor (176-F/G-99) with 13 points and 9 rebounds, Monique Conti (165-PG-99) scored 18 points. For losing team Costanza Verona scored 13 points.

Places 3-4
China - USA 50-65
Taylor Mikesell (175-G/F-99) led USA to bronze medal game with 15 points and 4 rebounds, also Maya Dodson (185-C-99) scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds. USA winning by 15 point margin against China to deserve bronze medal on World Cup. They dominated in rebounds by 18 more (48-30). For losing side once again best was Han XU (200-C-99) with 16 points and 9 rebounds. China lost last game on this tournament and finishing World Cup on fourth place.

Spain - Czech Republic 51-63
In European derby for battle of 5th place, Czech Republic was better then Spain with 12 point difference. Czech Republic let Spain to win first and third quarter, second and fourth Czech won it by 5 and 17 point difference which is just enough for huge win for Czech side. Winning side was leaded by Veronika Vorackova (184-SF-99) with 13 points and 7 rebounds, also Tereza Vitulova (182-C-99) scored 12 points and 13 rebounds and Adela Smutna (183-C-99) scored 15 points with 3 rebounds. Aina Ayuso (181-PG-99) for losing side scored 14 points. Czech Republic won 5th place on tournament.

Canada - France 58-53
Canada won game and winning seventh place of World Cup by beating team of France. It was close game with only 5 point win for Canadian side, Kyla Shand (188-C-99) scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds, for losing side best was Noemie Brochant (178-F-99) with 9 points and 5 rebounds for index points of 9, while Nabala Fofana (186-C-00) scored 4 points and had 7 rebounds for total index of 10 and that was not enough for Canadian side. France finish World Cup on eight place.




Italy and Australia advancing in final! - Jul 2, 2016

Semifinals
USA - Australia 60-73
Maybe someone is surprised but for sure not Australian players who believed in self and win this big game for their National Team. They controlled every quarter and didn't let USA to put their energy in the match. Half time was done by Australia leading by 9 (27:36) and they just increased difference at the end of third quarter by 4 more. In last ten minutes result was tied (14:14) and that was more then enough for Australia win in total of 73:60. Winning side was lead by Jazmin Shelley (174-G/F-00) with contributing 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assist while Eziyoda Magbegor (176-F/G-99) had 10 points and 10 rebounds. For losing side
Nelson Oddoda-Olivia (193-C-00) had 17 points and 10 rebounds. USA will be playing for bronze medal against China.

Italy - China 62-51
Sara Madera (186-C-00) lead European side to glory by putting 21 point into the basket and catches 8 rebounds. She helped Italian National Team to win this big game in semifinals against China with 11 points. She was helped by Valeria Trucco (190-C-99) with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Italian side had 10 rebounds more then China (42-32). Also, they let China win only first quarter (9:12), they won all remaining ones. For losing Asian side best was Han XU (200-C-99) with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Italy will be playing against Australia in big final and battle for gold medal.

Places 5-8
France - Czech Republic 55-62
Veronika Sipova (181-PG-98) lead Czech to another win on this tournament, this time against France. She didn't have miss for two points (5/5) and she scored 10 points with 3 assists. For losing side Emmanuelle Tahane (180-F-99) scored 16 points but that was not enough for win against Czech Republic as they win this game by 7, even when France was leading on half time with 11 points, Czech make big return and win second 20 minutes of the game by 17 points. Czech will play against Spain to decide who will finish on 5th place on World Cup.

Canada - Spain 72-75
Pretty interesting game for battle from 5th to 8th place. Spain won this game by only 3 point difference and will play against Czech Republic which will decide who will be 5th and who will be 6th place on this tournament. After losing this game, Canada will face France in game decider for 7 and 8 place. In this game, decider was last quarter which Spain won by 10 (15:25) and that give them win with 3 point margin. Spain side was led by Silvia Serrat (183-G-99) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Sofia Galeron (186-PF-99) had also good game with 17 points and 6 rebounds. For losing side Roxane Makolo (170-PG-00) scored 10 points and had 6 rebounds for best index ranking (15) in Canadian team.

Latvia - Japan 67-72
Japan win this game and finished tournament on 9th position. Mayuko Fujinaga (178-SG-99) had huge game with 19 points and 6 rebounds and she was followed by Mai Yamamoto (162-PG-99) with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. For losing team Aleksa Gulbe (184-F/C-00) nipped 20 points and had 8 rebounds, also Nikola Ozola (172-G-00) scored 17 points.
Places 11-12
Mali - Portugal 69-47
Last game for Mali on this tournament and they finish it with a nice win against Portugal for 11th place on World Cup. They flushed 69 points and allowing Portugal only 47. Salimatou Kourouma (175-G/F-99) had 19 points and 14 rebounds for winning team and Mariana Silva (182-PF-99) for Portugal scored 5 points and had 8 rebounds which gives her total number of 8 index points which was highest in losing team. Portugal finished tournament on 12 place.
Places 13-14
Mexico - Brazil 39-64
For the game who deciding who will be 13, Brazil was more successful then Mexico and they won this match without much trouble. They won it three out of four quarters with huge difference and that was enough in this game. Emanuely De Oliveira (180-SG-99) scored 17 points and had 5 rebounds and Raphaella Da Silva (186-C-99) had 12 points and same number of rebounds. For losing team Maria Ruiz (171-SG-99) had 18 points.

France - USA 45-56
USA outlasted France 56-45 as Christyn Williams (177-F/G-00) dropped 17 points for the winners. Emmanuelle Tahane (180-F-99) responded with 13 points and 6 rebounds for France. Americans will match up against Australia.

Australia - Czech Republic 83-53
History also came the way of Australia too as the Sapphires recorded an 83-53 win over Czech Republic. Eziyoda Magbegor (176-F/G-99) came up with a terrific 20 points, 8 rebounds and a sensational 6 blocks, while captain Jasmine Simmons (163-G-99, college: Rock Valley JC) racked up 17 points and 15 boards.

China - Spain 55-51
China also grabbed the headlines after they surprised the previously unbeaten hosts Spain 55-51, as center Han XU (200-C-99) finished with a brilliant 18 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Team-mate Zhang Lingge (187-C-99) also landed a double-double and China will now play Italy on Friday.

Canada - Italy 56-58
Italy progressed 58-56 in dramatic circumstances against Canada who suffered a first loss. Sara Madera (186-C-00) had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Italy, who had to survive Canada missing a late triple attempt.

Group Places 9-16
Latvia - South Korea 78-71
Latvia celebrated a maiden win in the competition and their first-ever in a global youth women's competition as they came from behind to beat Korea 78-71. It was thanks mainly to a phenomenal effort from Sabine Lipe (176-F/G-99) who had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

Mexico - Mali 51-73
Having beaten Brazil in the Group Phase and coming close to landing a berth in the Quarter-Finals, Mali opened up the Classification 9-16 with a vibrant 73-51 victory against Mexico as Aissetou Coulibaly (175-G/F-1) hit six three-pointers on her way to 23 points. That meant they became the first-ever African nation to record at least two wins at a FIBA U17 Women's World Championship.

Japan - Brazil 83-60
Japan had no problems in defeating Brazil 83-60. They started strong with 25-14 in the opening quarter and kept increasing their lead. Izumi Abe (167-PG-99) led Japanese players with 21 points, Mayuko Fujinaga (178-SG-99) added 20. Geovana Lopes (190-C-99) replied with 17 points off the bench for the losing side.

Czech Republic - Portugal 49-31
Czech Republic threw a defensive blanket over Portugal to take a 49-31 success in a repeat of the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2015 Final. They will meet Australia who had advanced directly to the Quarter-Finals.

USA - Brazil 79-62
Reigning champions USA stamped their passport to the Last Eight by beating Brazil 79-62 as Christyn Williams (177-F/G-00) and Janelle Bailey (190-C-99) had 19 points apiece.

Japan - France 52-58
France shrugged off a late salvage bid from Japan to take a 58-52 victory. Three French players scored 10+ points: Kadiatou Sissoko (180-F-99) led the game with 15 points, Emmanuelle Tahane (180-F-99) scored 13 and Tima Pouye (176-F/G-99) added 12. Mai Yamamoto (162-PG-99) scored 14 for losing side.

South Korea - Spain 44-78
Spain stayed perfect after a 78-44 victory against Korea. The game was without history as Europeans led from first quarter increasing their lead each quarter.

Latvia - China 46-76
China produced a devastating 22-3 second quarter against Latvia, which along with 18 points from Wang Jiaqi (170-G-99), facilitated a 76-46 win. They are the sole Asian representatives in the Quarter-Finals and will match up with Spain, who stayed perfect via a 78-44 victory against Korea.

Italy - Mali 58-55
Italy defeated Mali 58-55 after close game. Italians struggled in the first half, but thanks to great performance of Sara Madera (186-C-00) they were able to get the ticket to next round. Italy will meet Canada in Quarter-Finals.

Canada - Mexico 72-37
Canada are still rolling strongly and were able to cruise to a 72-37 win against Mexico after a 10-point and 12-rebound double-double from Roxane Makolo (170-PG-00). The Canadians will play Italy, who breathed a sigh of relief after a narrow 58-55 win against Mali.




Recap of Day 4 in Zaragoza - Jun 26, 2016

Group A
Japan - Canada 55-70
Leaticia Amihere (185-C) lead Canada to victory against Japan on this game with 20 points and 16 rebounds. That gives her for sure MVP of this game. Haruki Takahara (173-PF-99) responded in Japan with 12 points, while Rui Mima (184-C-99) had only 4 points but 13 (!) rebounds on this match. Unfortunately for Japanese players and their fans, that was not enough for the victory as Canada win this game by 15 point margin. Canada had 60 rebounds on this match and Japan had 23 less then them.

Group B
China - Mexico 82-43
Han XU (200-C-99) lead China to big victory against Mexico on this game with 18 points and 9 rebounds, she was followed by Wang Jiaqi (170-G-99) with 15 points and 7 rebounds. They both combine 25 points of 82 in total that China scored. Amazing night for Chinese players as with this victory they advanced in knockout round with 2-1 record and Mexico finished this Group with 0-3. In their team best was Sofia Payan (167-SF-00) with 12 points and Patricia Ayala (181-PF-99) with 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Australia - France 55-48
One of the most interesting match of the day we saw from Australia and France. Team from Australia was better at the end of the game with 7 points margin. Jasmine Simmons (163-G-99, college: Rock Valley JC) nipped 13 points and had 9 rebounds and Naomi Mbandu (185-SF-99) responded in France by 9 points. Australia finished group with perfect 3-0 record while France was on third place in Group B with 1-2.

Group C
Czech Republic - South Korea 92-54
Tereza Vitulova (182-C-99) had performance of the game with 20 points and 8 rebounds for big win of Czech Republic against South Korea. In Asian team Park Jihyun (180-F-00) had 20 points and 7 rebounds on this game, but Czech had amazing night as they won this game with 38 points difference and they recorded their first win on this tournament, and South Korea finishing Group C without any win.

USA - Italy 59-55
Pretty close game for two times who didn't have lose after two rounds. After this game USA stayed perfect with 3-0 while Italy goes with 2-1. USA won this game by only 4 point game (59:55). One quarter when some team won quarter with more then 2 points was last ten minutes when USA won it with 18:15 for total of 4 point win. Christyn Williams (177-F/G-00) had amazing night with 20 points and Aquira Decosta (188-F-00) had 12 points and 12 rebounds. For Italy, Elisa Pinzan (171-PG-99) respond with 16 points which was not enough for the win.

Group D
Mali - Portugal 48-56
Ana Ramos (171-PG-99) scored 17 points and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists, she lead Portugal to first victory of the tournament against Mali with 8 point margin (56:48). She got help from Maryam Ramalho (184-PF-99) who added 12 points. In African team Salimatou Kourouma (175-G/F-99) scored 13 points and have identical number of rebounds (13!).

Spain - Brazil 70-58
Spain goes perfect in Group D with this win as they finish group stage with 3-0 and remaining only team from Group D that has perfect score. All others have 1-2. They were better then Brazil on this game with 70:58 result. For European team 4 player have double digit performance this night as Aina Ayuso (181-PG-99) had 14 points and 6 rebounds, Sofia Galeron (186-PF-99) had 18 points and 8 rebounds. Alba Prieto (180-G-99) had 12 and Silvia Serrat (183-G-99) had 13. In Brazil Izabela Nicoletti (170-G-99) had 16 points and 5 rebounds, she added also 3 assists alongside her name, she was followed with Obalunanma Chukwumaeze (181-F-99) who scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. The most crucial part of the game was 2nd and 3rd quarter which Spain won by identical result (17:11).

Group C
South Korea - Italy 67-78
Elena Vella (172-SG-00) lead Italy at another victory, this time against South Korean team. She scored 18 points. He was followed very well with Martina Fassina (180-F-99), she scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Italy won all four quarters at this game for final result and win with +11 points. In South Korea Park Jihyun (180-F-00) scored 20 points with 9 rebounds and Lee Sohee (168-F-00) had 16 points. Italy recorded their second win, and South Korea had their second lose at this tournament.

Czech Republic - USA 63-72
USA stayed perfect with another win. This time against Czech Republic with +9 margin. First quarter was most crucial to this game as USA won it by 8 (12:20). USA dominated in rebounds as they took almost 50 of them and Czech had only 30 and that was maybe the biggest reason of USA win at this game. Olivia Nelson-Ododa (193-C-00) had 13 points with 10 rebounds and Aquira Decosta (188-F-00) had 2 points and 16 (!) rebounds. In Czech team best was Adela Smutna (183-C-99) with 14 points.

Group D
Portugal - Brazil 54-58
In closest game of the day, Brazil win against European team, Portugal with 4 points difference. Izabela Nicoletti (170-G-99) had amazing performance scoring 24 and have 14 rebounds for wining side. Maryam Ramalho (184-PF-99) responded with 18 points for Portugal but that was not enough for her National team. Brazil dominating the rebounds. They had 62 rebounds while Portugal had only 34. Biggest difference was in offensive rebounds as Brazil had amazing number of them (25). Even with that lead in that segment of the game it was pretty tied game as Brazil won it by only 4 points, making the biggest difference in 2nd and 3rd quarter wining it by 12 and 7 points margin, and Portugal played perfect 1st quarter wining it by 14 (22:8). With this win Brazil is now at 1-1 record and Portugal is without victory still on this tournament.

Mali - Spain 63-77
Spain gave little chance for opposing Mali in the second game of the World Championship. Sofia Galeron (186-PF-99) netted 21 points in the winning side. Spain built a 28:35 lead 20 minutes into the game. They held Mali to 35 points in the next two periods to stretch the gap to as many as 14 points and never looked back en route to the victory. Paloma Gonzalez (172-PG-99) chipped in 13 points. Mariam Traore (169-G-00) answered with 21 points for Mali.




Recap of Day 2 in Zaragoza - Jun 24, 2016

Group A
Canada - Latvia 60-57 OT
Game was opened with 15:11 for Canada but Latvia responded in 2nd quarter with 8:17. Latvia was leading after first half with 23:29 but Canada managed to won two remaining quarters by 3 points and that how have the addition of 5 minutes to grab victory. They succeed in that and they won over time with 10:7. With this victory after over time, Canada is still perfect with 2-0, while Latvia had their second lose in same amount of games. In Canada best was Leaticia Amihere (185-C) with 18 points and 21 (!!!) rebounds. For Latvia Mara Mote (160-F-00) counted until 16 points and have also 6 rebounds on this game.

Group B
Mexico - France 27-65
France is back in the game with this victory and they are now on 1-1 record as they lose against China in Round 1. Mexico again lose the game and they are 0-2 on this tournament. France started strongly, winning 3 quarters in the row. They allowed Mexico to score only 7 points in first two quarters for 6:30 on half time. In third quarter they are played even better, wining that period of the game with 6:23 and that how at that point they are all celebrating their first victory on this tournament. Final result was 65:27. For France 11 players scored at least 2 points, while Tima Pouye (176-F/G-99) scored 12 with 4 rebounds and Clara Bretagne (170-PG-99), starting five for France scored 9 points with 4 assists. In Mexico Sofia Payan (167-SF-00) scored 6 points and Diana Cano (186-C-99) 7.

China - Australia 41-66
Easy job for Australia on this game and another victory for 2-0 record in Group B. China is now on 1-1. It's seems everything was decided after only 10 minutes when Australia won 1st quarter with 21:5. They stayed focused and play on high level also in 2nd quarter as they won that part of the game with also two digit difference, this time 17:6. It was all clear after first half. China only managed to won last quarter with 13:12 but that was not even close enough to make this game go into interesting finish. In Australia most efficient was Samantha Simons (183-F/C-00) with 16 points and Eziyoda Magbegor (176-F/G-99) with 12 points and 8 rebounds. For China Wang Jiaqi (170-G-99) stop on 18 points alongside her name. She also had 4 rebounds and 3 assists for losing team.

Latvia - Japan 71-77
In opening of World Championship U17 tournament, Japan win close game against Latvia in Round 1. In 2nd quarter Japan make difference of 12 points and Latvia responded with +8 win in in third part of the game. Apparently that was not enough to beat Japan at this game. Best in Japan was Mai Yamamoto (162-PG-99) with 30 points alongside her name and with 4 rebounds and same number of assists. She was followed by Haruki Takahara (173-PF-99) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. In Latvia Aleksa Gulbe (184-F/C-00) scored 13 points, and three other players was tied with 10 points in total (Luize Septe, Marianna Klavina and Janeta Rozentale).
