USA celebrate title in Mexico

USA ensured Gold medals in Mexico. They defeated Canada in the title game. Jerzy Robinson (185-G-2008) accounted for 25 points for USA. McKenna Woliczko added 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Canada led by a single point at the first break. But USA responded with a 25-13 run in the second stanza to secure a 41-30 halftime lead. USA went on a 25-13 rally in the fourth period to seal the victory. Savannah Swords (182-F-2008) netted 15 points for Canada.

3-4 Place

Spain - France 47-39
Spain outscored France to clinch the third position in Mexico. France jumped to an 18-14 lead after ten minutes. But Spain went on a 14-6 run in the second frame to spur ahead. Spain held their opponents to just 15 points in the second half and marched to the win. Ines Monje (187-C-2007) accounted for 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Leyre Urdiain (175-F-2007) had 14 points for Spain. Emma Broliron (167-G-2008) notched 11 points for France.

5-6 Place

Australia - Japan 67-64
Australia edged Japan to earn the fifth position at the championship. Australia built a 33-31 halftime lead. They poured in 23 points in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 4 points. Australia protected the advantage throughout the final stanza and raced to the victory. Madison Ryan delivered 25 points, while Erica Finney (186-F-2007) had 13 points for Australia. Nanano Hamada (160-PG-2007) replied with 23 points for Japan.

7-8 Place

Finland - Italy 64-73
Italy outscored Finland to secure the 7th place finish in Mexico. The Azzurri recorded a comfortable 40-26 halftime advantage. Finland cut the deficit in the second half but could not avert the defeat. Emma D'Este (192-C-2007) came up with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Emma Giacchetti (178-F-2007) contributed 12 points and 10 assists for Italy. Nicole Ogun (184-F-2007) tallied 12 points and 14 rebounds for Finland.

9-10 Place

Taiwan - Croatia 76-86
Croatia rallied past Taiwan to earn the 9th position. Croatia went on a 24-14 run in the second quarter to take an 8-point halftime lead. They followed with a 23-15 rally in the third stanza to clear off for good. Olivia Vukosa (194-PF-2008) stepped up with 31 points, 24 rebounds and 6 blocks for Croatia. Yu Chen Peng (160-PG-2008) replied with 19 points and 9 assists for Taiwan.

11-12 Place

New Zealand - Egypt 59-62
Egypt wrapped up their campaign on a winning note as they held off New Zealand for the 11th place. New Zealand posted a 36-29 halftime lead. But Egypt held their opponents to just 23 points in the second half to race to the victory. Khadiga Abouelghait (190-C-2007) nailed 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the winners. Bailey Flavell (177-G-2007) answered with 16 points for New Zealand.

13-14 Place

Puerto Rico - Mali 54-65
Mali beat Puerto Rico to earn 13th place in Mexico. Mali piled up a 37-23 halftime advantage. Puerto Rico narrowed the gap in the second half but could not avoid the loss. Assan Mariko (180-C-2008) notched 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Assitan Diarriso (164-F-2008) added 11 points for the African team. Jaida Guerra (155-SG-2007) and Adriana Robles (171-G-2007) netted 13 points apiece for Puerto Rico.

15-16 Place

Mexico - Argentina 75-57
Mexico clinched the 15th place at the tournament. The hosts toppled Argentina in the final game at the competition. Mexico went on a 41-25 second half rally to secure the winning outcome. Lucero Ochoa (180-F-2007) posted 16 points and 10 rebounds for Mexico. Sol Depetris (171-SG-2007) answered with 16 points for Argentina.
