Latvia continued their impressive run at the 2023 World Cup. The Baltic team shocked the defending champions Spain in Jakarta tonight to improve at 3-1 record in Second Round Group L. Davis Bertans (208-SF-1992) stepped up with 16 points to lead the winners.
Latvia snatched a 17-16 lead after the opening quarter. But Spain gradually took over in the next two periods. The reigning champions held Latvia to 12 points in the second term to take a 32-29 halftime lead. Spain sank 26 points in the third period to open an 11-point advantage at the final break. But it was Latvia in the fourth period. The Luca Banchi 's side went on a stunning 27-11 rally in the last ten minutes to seal the victory. Rodions Kurucs (206-F-1998) stepped up with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Willy Hernangomez (210-C-1994) answered with 14 points, while Dario Brizuela (188-G-1994) and Usman Garuba (203-C-2002) tossed in 11 points each for Spain.
