Reuben Te Rangi (198-F/G-1994) sank two free throws with 17 seconds left in regulation to seal a narrow win for New Zealand over Egypt in the last game at the 2023 World Cup for both teams. Izayah Mauriohooho-Le'afa (188-G-1996, college: Sacramento St.) and Finn Delany (200-PF-1995, college: SW Baptist) posted 27 points each to lead the Tall Blacks as they finished at 2-3 record in Group N.
Egypt accounted for 25 points in the first period to take a 3-point lead. But New Zealand bounced back with a massive 25-10 run in the second period. Egypt started to regain composure in the third term. The African powerhouse poured in 26 points in the period to narrow the deficit at 7-point mark 61-68. Egypt erased the deficit in the fourth frame and finally surged in front on a Ehab Amin (193-G-1995, college: Oregon)'s three-pointer. Finn Delany tied things up at 83 and then Jordan Ngatai (196-F-1993, college: BYU-Hawaii) hit a trifecta to give the lead back to the Tall Blacks. Reuben Te Rangi then hit key free throws to seal the win for the Kiwis. Isaac Fotu (203-PF-1993, college: Hawaii) had 14 points in the win. Ehab Amin and Amr El Gendy (192-G-1991) hauled in 19 points each for Egypt.
