Serbia inched closer to the FIBA World Cup trophy as they saw off Canada in the semifinal battle in Manila today. Bogdan Bogdanovic (198-SG-1992) scored 23 points to pace the European side.
Serbia opened the game on an 8-1 run. Canada quickly denied the deficit but Serbia finished the period strong to open a 23-15 lead. Serbia maintained the advantage throughout the second period. Once again strong finish to the quarter allowed Serbia to secure a 52-39 halftime lead. Canada could not deny the deficit throughout the third period. Serbia continued to keep firm grip on the lead building a 75-63 advantage at the final intermission. RJ Barrett Jr. (198-F/G-2000, college: Duke) cut the deficit to 10 points midway through the fourth term 76-86. But Bogdan Bogdanovic scored quick five points for Serbia to secure a 15-point lead with just over 4 minutes to go. Canada could not recover as the European side raced to the victory. Nikola Milutinov (213-C-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) and Ognjen Dobric (200-SG-1994) provided 16 points each for the winners. RJ Barrett Jr. answered with 23 points for Canada. Dillon Brooks (201-G/F-1996, college: Oregon) produced 16 points in the losing case.
