Italy - Slovenia 85-89

Slovenia overcame Italy to finish 7th in Manila at the 2023 World Cup. Luka Doncic (201-G-1999) stepped up with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists as Slovenia won 89-85. Italy started better and won the opening period 18-15. It was Italy later in the second to reduce to 41-21 at the halftime as Alessandro Pajola (194-SG-1999, agency: Players Group) nailed three at the very end. Slovenia dominated the third quarter with a 28-19 surge and had 10-point advantage entering the last stanza. Italy however did not give up and Giampaolo Ricci (201-PF-1991) scored for 85-83, whilst Jakob Cebasek (200-G/F-1991) replied with a three for 86-85 for Slovenia. Gregor Hrovat (196-SF-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) made two free throws for a 3-point lead with 17 seconds to go. Zoran Dragic (196-F/G-1989) netted one free throw for the final result.
Mike Tobey (213-F/C-1994, college: Virginia) delivered 12 points for the winners and Zoran Dragic poured in 10. Marco Spissu (184-PG-1995) replied with 22 points for Italy and Simone Fontecchio (203-SF-1995) netted 16. Achille Polonara (202-PF-1991) scored 13, whilst Giampaolo Ricci brought 11.
