Regular Season Round 12: Apoel - AEK 82-84

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Division A took place in Nicosia. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th ranked Apoel (5-6) to first ranked AEK (9-1) 84-82 on Monday evening. AEK made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Apoel helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Shane Gibson (188-90, college: Sacred Heart) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import point guard Tyreek Duren (183-91, college: La Salle) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. American power forward Justin Baker (203-89, college: Utah Valley) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Vassilis Kounas (194-84) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Apoel. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. AEK have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record. Apoel at the other side dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. AEK are looking forward to face Apollon (#6) in Limassol in the next round where they are favorite. Apoel will have a break next round.
