Regular Season Round 5: Keravnos - Youth Stars 63-83

Another exciting game was played in Nicosia between sixth ranked Youth Stars and bottom-ranked Keravnos where Youth Stars (1-4) crushed Keravnos (0-5) on the road with 20-point difference 83-63. The game was mostly controlled by Youth Stars. Keravnos was better in fourth quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Youth Stars forced 19 Keravnos turnovers and outrebounded them 51-39 including 20 on the offensive glass. Guard Ellada Gavrielidou (165-2004) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 20 rebounds. Russian guard Valeriya Pokrovskaya (173-1997, college: Emmanuel, GA) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Youth Stars' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized German swingman Alyssa Pangalos (168-2003) answered with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized British Chrystalla Merkouri (182-1975) added 16 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Keravnos. Youth Stars left bottom position moving up to fifth place. It was Keravnos' fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Youth Stars will play against league's leader AEL in Limassol in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Keravnos will play on the road against Anorthosis (#3) in Larnaca and hopes to get finally their first victory.
