Very expected game when 9th ranked APOP (4-12) lost to second ranked Apoel (13-3) in Nicosia 78-88 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-78. Apoel looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for power forward Jalen Henry (203-1996, college: SIUE) who led his team to a victory with 21 points. Forward Travin Thibodeaux (203-1996, college: New Orleans) contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Apoel's coach Slobodan Subotic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard JaQualyn Gilbreath (188-1998, college: TWU) replied with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and Jalen Seegars (196, college: Fayetteville St.) added 22 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for APOP. Five Apoel and four APOP players scored in double figures. Apoel maintains second position with 13-3 record having just two point less than leader Keravnos. APOP lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with E.N. Paralimni. Apoel's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Nicosia to the arena Anorthosis.
