Regular Season Round 7: Speyer - Koeln 84-86

The most exciting game of round 7 in the ProB took place in Speyer. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th rankedSpeyer (3-4) to first ranked RheinStars (6-1) 86-84 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Speyer. Koeln made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 29 Ahorn Camp turnovers. Strangely Ahorn Camp outrebounded Koeln 34-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. Point guard Rupert Hennen (184-1997) fired 27 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American guard Malik Riddle (193-1999, college: HSU) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Riddle is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. RheinStars' coach Stephan Baeck used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Spanish point guard Carlos Hidalgo (183-1997) produced 16 points and 4 assists and Serbian Marko Djordjevic (200-2003) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Koeln maintains first place with 6-1 record, which they share with Leitershofen. Ahorn Camp at the other side dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with 4 other teams.
