There was a minor upset when 12th rankedHamburg Towers (8-10) were defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked ALBA Berlin (8-10) 92-77 on Sunday. ALBA outrebounded Hamburg 40-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. ALBA looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was Matt Thomas (195-1994, college: Iowa St.) who scored 22 points. Center David McCormack (208-1999, college: Kansas) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Point guard Brae Ivey (187-1997, college: SJSU, agency: LHZ Sport Agency) produced 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Jordan Barnett (201-1995, college: Missouri) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Four Hamburg players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. ALBA moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bonn and Hamburg. ALBA will meet higher ranked Rostock (#8) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hamburg will play against Braunschweig (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
