Regular Season Round 2: Mainz - Jena 60-87

Not a big story in a game when Mainz was outplayed at home by Jena 87-60 on Saturday. Jena dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 28. They outrebounded Mainz 44-23 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jena looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Laila Walker (165-2002, college: Biola, CA) scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Latvian center Marta Miscenko (194-1995, college: Wingate) chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Jena's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. responded with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and scored 3 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Jena will meet at home Bad Homburg in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mainz will play against Leimen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
