Regular Season Round 16: Zalgiris - Zalgiris II 112-90

Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kaunas:Zalgiris (#6) and Zalgiris II (#7). Zalgiris (9-6) smashed visiting Zalgiris II (7-7) by 22 points 112-90 . It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zalgiris II. It looked good early as Zalgiris II took a 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 22 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris II 's 36. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Zalgiris II 's players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Povilas Aleksiunas (194-2007) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Nedas Orlickas (180-2007) who added 15 points and 19 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Deimantas Jonikas (184-2007) responded with 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Justis Sinkevicius (188-2007) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Five Zalgiris and four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 9-6 record. Zalgiris II at the other side keeps the seventh place with seven games lost.
