Tenth-rankedBuyukcekmece (9-13) was very close to win a game against second ranked Besiktas (17-5) in Istanbul. Besiktas managed to secure only one-point victory 89-88 . However their fans expected much easier game. Besiktas players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Buyukcekmece was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Montenegrin-American point guard Derek Needham (180-1990, college: Fairfield) scored 19 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Berk Ugurlu (192-1996) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side American point guard Markel Starks (188-1991, college: Georgetown) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Lithuanian center Martynas Sajus (208-1996) scored 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Besiktas have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-5 record having four points less than leader Fenerbahce. Buyukcekmece at the other side keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost.
