Alligators exact revenge on Mistelbach to claim Austrian B2L crown-May 14, 2026
Union Deutsch Wagram Alligators are the 2025-26 Basketball Zweite Liga champions, winning the decisive Game 3 on the road 74-67 at UKJ Mistelbach Mustangs on Thursday to take the best-of-three finals 2-1 and claim the title in Austria's second tier. The championship carries sweet revenge for the Lower Austrian side, who lost to these same Mustangs in the 2024 final. This time, when it mattered most, they found the answers.
The decider followed a familiar script before Deutsch Wagram rewrote the ending. Mistelbach, the slight home favorites, controlled the first half and looked poised to force the title their way. But the Alligators transformed after the break, seizing control in a dominant third quarter that flipped the contest and carried them to the finish line.
Victor Onwudiwe (203-F-1999) shouldered the offensive burden with 24 points and strong work on the boards. Philipp D'Angelo (198-F-1989) complemented him with 16 points and rebounds of his own, providing the inside-outside balance that Mistelbach could not contain in the second half. On the other side, Zdenek Nehyba (197-C-1995) fought hard with 20 points, but the Alligators' defense largely neutralized Jan Kozina (182-G-1995) and Jakub Jokl (211-F-1996, college: Utah) two of the Mustangs' key weapons.
The series had been a tale of home dominance before Game 3 broke the pattern. Both teams won convincingly on their own floors in Games 1 and 2, setting up the winner-take-all road test that Deutsch Wagram ultimately passed with composure.
Statistically, the teams were remarkably even across 40 minutes shooting percentages, rebounds, assists, turnovers all closely matched. The difference came down to the intangibles: Deutsch Wagram's third-quarter intensity, their defensive adjustments at halftime, and the hunger of a team that had been in this exact position two years ago and lost.
