Second Stage Round 4: Zalgiris - Maccabi T-A 66-73
Date: January 23, 2015
Rather predictable result in Kaunas where second ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (3-1) defeated 6th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (1-3) 73-66 on Friday. Zalgiris were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 25-14 charge of Maccabi T-A, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris' 32. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi T-A made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Israeli swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and American point guard Jeremy Pargo (188-86, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) who added 12 points and 8 assists during the contest. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. At the losing side Paulius Jankunas (203-84) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and American James Anderson (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Zalgiris' coach tested eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi T-A have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending Israeli champion maintains second position in Group E with 3-1 record behind leader Real Madrid. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. Maccabi T-A will face league's leader Real Madrid at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zalgiris will play against Regal FC Barcelona and hope to win that game.
