Regular Season Round 17: Real Madrid - Maccabi T-A 80-75

Very expected game when 13th ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (6-11) was defeated on the road by third ranked Spanish Real Madrid (12-5) 80-75 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Maccabi T-A was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 27-19 charge of Real Madrid, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Slovenian point guard Luka Doncic (201-99) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and Rudy Fernandez (197-85) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists. Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. American forward Victor Rudd (205-91, college: S.Florida) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the other American import guard Andrew Goudelock (190-88, college: Charleston) scored 18 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Real Madrid have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Spanish champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Olympiacos. Loser Maccabi T-A keeps the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Real Madrid will face Zalgiris (#14) in Kaunas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maccabi T-A will play at home against Crvena Zvezda and hope to win that game.
