Regular Season Round 14: SAV Vacallo - GC Zurich 89-81
Date: December 22, 2010
There was no surprise in Chiasso where 10th ranked Zurich Wildcats (1-13) were defeated by third ranked SAV Vacallo (10-4) 89-81. The hosts were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-23 Zurich Wildcats' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 89-81 at the end of the game. SAV Vacallo made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. American forward Kevyn Popovich (196-85, college: SE Louisiana) notched 24 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and naturalized Serbian swingman Nikola Dacevic (205-79) supported him with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Even 24 points and 5 assists by Serbian guard Josko Srzic (193-82) did not help to save the game for Zurich Wildcats. Serbian center Mladen Lukic (207-92) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Four Zurich Wildcats players scored in double figures. SAV Vacallo has a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Fribourg. Zurich Wildcats lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. SAV Vacallo's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Fribourg on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zurich Wildcats will play against Geneve Lions (#4).
