Regular Season Round 8: N.Novgorod - CSKA 60-95
Date: January 3, 2011
There was no surprise when 10th ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (2-6) was crushed at home by second ranked CSKA Moscow (6-2) 95-60 on Monday. The game without a history. CSKA Moscow led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. CSKA Moscow outrebounded BC Nizhny Novgorod 38-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Slovenian forward Matjaz Smodis (205-79) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. American swingman Jamont Gordon (193-87, college: Mississippi St.) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five CSKA Moscow players scored in double figures. Bosnian-Serbian power forward Vanja Plisnic (207-80, agency: Beo Basket) produced 7 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized Belarusian forward Valentin Yurchyk (207-87) added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. CSKA Moscow has a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Unics and Lokomotiv. BC Nizhny Novgorod lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with six games lost. CSKA Moscow will face Lokomotiv (#3) in Kuban in the next round, which may be the game of the day. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play at home against Dynamo Moscow (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
