Regular Season Round 12: Spartak SP - Dynamo MO 87-85

Eighth-ranked Dynamo Moscow (3-9) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (7-5). Spartak St.Petersburg managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts were already 19 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 29-12 Dynamo Moscow's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 87-85 at the end of the game. Spartak St.Petersburg made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Dynamo Moscow turnovers. Dynamo Moscow was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Anton Ponkrashov (200-86) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 assists and American-Bosnian guard Henry Domercant (192-80, college: E.Illinois) who added 15 points during the contest. Five Spartak St.Petersburg players scored in double figures. Spartak St.Petersburg's coach Zvi Sherf allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was international guard Eugeny Voronov (192-86) with 33 points (!!!) and the former international guard Dmitry Khvostov (191-89) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains fifth position with 7-5 record. Dynamo Moscow at the other side keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Krasnie Krilya and N.Novgorod. Spartak St.Petersburg will play against higher ranked Khimky (#4) in Khimki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dynamo Moscow's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Moscow to the arena CSKA Moscow.
