Regular Season Round 15: Spartak V MR - Dynamo M. 81-71
Date: February 18, 2011
Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Dynamo Moscow (6-9) was defeated on the road by second ranked Spartak Vidnoye (12-2) 81-71. It looked good early as Dynamo Moscow took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Spartak Vidnoye had a 22-19 second period charge getting the lead and Dynamo Moscow was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-81. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Tay McWilliams-Franklin (189-70, college: St.Edward's) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Israeli-American guard Sue Bird (175-80, college: Connecticut) accounted for 10 points for the winning side. The former international center Marina Kuzina (195-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and forward Anastasia Pimenova (180-81) added 10 points respectively for Dynamo Moscow in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Spartak Vidnoye. They maintain second place with 12-2 record having four points less than leader UMMC. Dynamo Moscow at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Spartak Vidnoye will play against Dynamo-GUVD (#7) in Novosibirsk in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Dynamo Moscow's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Moscow Spartak-SHVSM.
