Very important is a road loss of second ranked CSKA Moscow (9-5) against fifth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (8-6) on Saturday night. Visiting CSKA Moscow was defeated by Spartak St.Petersburg in St.Petersburg 89-71. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Spartak St.Petersburg's pressure prevailed and they won that period 28-13 extending their advantage to 18 points. Spartak St.Petersburg outrebounded CSKA Moscow 41-24 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman Dijon Thompson (201-83, college: UCLA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. American-Bosnian guard Henry Domercant (192-80, college: E.Illinois) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Five Spartak St.Petersburg players scored in double figures. Lithuanian guard Ramunas Siskauskas (197-78) replied with 19 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and American swingman Jamont Gordon (193-87, college: Mississippi St.) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for CSKA Moscow. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains fifth position with 8-6 record. CSKA Moscow lost third consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Lokomotiv. Spartak St.Petersburg will play against Krasnie Krilya (#7) in Samara in the next round. CSKA Moscow will play at home against Triumph Lyubertsy (#8) in Lubertsy and hopes to get back on the winning track.
