Regular Season Round 22: BBC Nyon - Lugano Tigers 73-87

LNA top team - Lugano Tigers (20-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat ninth ranked BBC Nyon (3-19) 87-73. The game was mostly controlled by Lugano Tigers. BBC Nyon was better in third quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lugano Tigers forced 19 BBC Nyon turnovers and outrebounded them 47-35 including 21 on the offensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American forward Mohammed Abukar (208-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Interperformances) notched 29 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Dusan Mladjan (199-86, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 20 points. Lugano Tigers' coach Joe Whelton allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by American swingman Lester Hunte (196-88, college: Northwood Fl.) did not help to save the game for BBC Nyon. His fellow American import guard Chad Byron (188-87, college: Cumberlands) added 19 points for lost side. Four BBC Nyon players scored in double figures. Lugano Tigers have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 20-2 record. BBC Nyon at the other side keeps the ninth place with 19 games lost. Lugano Tigers will play against bottom-ranked Zurich Wildcats (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BBC Nyon will play against Starwings in Basel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
