Very expected game when 10th ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (4-14) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (12-7) 91-80 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-80. FYR Macedonian-Bulgarian forward Pero Antic (210-82, agency: Interperformances) fired 27 points (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) for the winners. The former international forward Vladimir Dyachok (204-80) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) produced 15 points and 8 assists and forward Valery Likhodey (204-86) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains fifth place with 12-7 record. Triumph Lyubertsy lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Spartak St.Petersburg will meet at home higher ranked CSKA Moscow (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Triumph Lyubertsy will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
