Very important is a road loss of second ranked CSKA Moscow (13-7) against fifth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (13-7) on Saturday night. Visiting CSKA Moscow was defeated by Spartak St.Petersburg in a tough game in St.Petersburg 77-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of CSKA Moscow. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-18. But CSKA Moscow won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Spartak St.Petersburg won last quarter 23-20. They made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. CSKA Moscow was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by the former international guard Anton Ponkrashov (200-86, agency: RIZO) who scored that evening 20 points and FYR Macedonian-Bulgarian forward Pero Antic (210-82, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 15 points. Even 24 points and 4 assists by American swingman Jamont Gordon (193-87, college: Mississippi St.) did not help to save the game for CSKA Moscow. The former international guard Alexey Shved (196-88, agency: Alti Sport) added 11 points and 4 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartak St.Petersburg moved-up to second place, which they share with CSKA and Lokomotiv. Spartak St.Petersburg will play against Khimky (#5) in Khimki in the next round. CSKA Moscow will play on the road against BC Nizhny Novgorod and hopes to get back on the winning track.
