BC Nizhny Novgorod (8-13) survived in overtime against CSKA Moscow (13-8) by five points 94-89 on Wednesday night. CSKA Moscow was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-19 charge of BC Nizhny Novgorod, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-11. BC Nizhny Novgorod made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Serbian guard Nemanja Protic (182-86) who scored 20 points. Forward Artem Yakovenko (206-88, agency: RU-Basket Management) chipped in 19 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Lithuanian guard Ramunas Siskauskas (197-78) who recorded 17 points and Slovenian forward Matjaz Smodis (205-79) added 16 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CSKA Moscow's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted BC Nizhny Novgorod maintains seventh place with 8-13 record. Defending champion CSKA Moscow dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. BC Nizhny Novgorod will face higher ranked Khimky (#3) in Khimki in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CSKA Moscow will play at home against Enisey Krasnoyarsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
