No shocking result in a game when first ranked Unics Kazan (19-6) defeated at home 8th ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (8-17) 91-77 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Unics Kazan. BC Nizhny Novgorod was better in fourth quarter 27-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unics Kazan made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Strangely BC Nizhny Novgorod outrebounded Unics Kazan 41-27 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. BC Nizhny Novgorod was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Terrell Lyday (190-79, college: BYU) fired 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Polish-Swedish center Maciej Lampe (210-85) chipped in 23 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Artem Yakovenko (206-88, agency: RU-Basket Management) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and forward Oleg Baranov (202-82) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Unics Kazan maintains first place with 19-6 record. BC Nizhny Novgorod lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with 17 games lost. Unics Kazan will face Enisey Krasnoyarsk (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play against Spartak St.Petersburg.
