Regular Season Round 25: Lokomotiv - Spartak SP 69-70

There was a minor upset in Kuban where 3rd placed Lokomotiv (16-9) was edged by fifth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (16-9) 70-69 on Thursday. Lokomotiv was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 15-13 charge of Spartak St.Petersburg, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Lokomotiv turnovers. Lokomotiv was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Slovenian power forward Miha Zupan (205-82) fired 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Lionel Chalmers (184-80, college: Xavier) produced 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and American-FYR Macedonian forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St.) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Spartak St.Petersburg moved-up to third place, which they share with CSKA and Lokomotiv. Spartak St.Petersburg will face BC Nizhny Novgorod (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lokomotiv will play against the league's second-placed Khimky (#2) in Khimki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
