Fifth ranked Khimky won an overtime thriller against much higher ranked CSKA Moscow by one point 89-88 on Friday night. The game took place in Moscow. But the guests from Khimki were better at the end. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of CSKA Moscow. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 29-23 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 1-point victory in overtime. CSKA Moscow was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. International forward Sergey Monya (203-83) fired 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Eritrean-Polish swingman Thomas Kelati (195-82, college: Washington St., agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 21 points and 4 steals. The former international swingman Viktor Khryapa (204-82) produced 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Lithuanian guard Ramunas Siskauskas (197-78) added 21 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Khimky (16-8) moved-up to second place. Defending champion CSKA Moscow dropped to the third position with nine games lost. Khimky will face Lokomotiv (#3) in Kuban in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
