Regular Season Round 2: Nyon - Fribourg 47-71
Date: October 15, 2011
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Nyon (1-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Fribourg (2-0) 71-47. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The game was mostly controlled by Fribourg. Nyon managed to win third quarter 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Nyon to just 7 points in second quarter. Fribourg shot 23 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Nyon only scored three points from the stripe. Fribourg forced 22 Nyon turnovers. American center Celeste Trahan (184-85, college: Elizabeth City, agency: LBM Management) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 20 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Dana Bozovic (180-93) chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Fribourg players scored in double figures. Guard Gaelle Gur (167-89) responded with 12 points and American forward Erica Beverly (183, college: Hartford) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 2-0 record, which they share with Helios. Nyon at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with Ovronnaz-Mart. and Hope-GBA. Fribourg is looking forward to face Pully (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Nyon will play against Hope-GBA in Bernex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
