Regular Season Round 5: Helios - Fribourg 77-65

There was a change at the LNA leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 5 took place in Vetroz between two undefeated teams where Helios beat Fribourg (4-1) 77-65 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Fribourg. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Helios. Fribourg managed to win fourth quarter 26-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Fribourg to just 7 points in second quarter. Helios dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Fribourg's 38. Helios forced 21 Fribourg turnovers. American forward Shyra Ely (188-83, college: Tennessee, agency: Merit Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import guard Whitney Boddie (175-87, college: Auburn, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 17 points and 9 assists. Four Helios players scored in double figures. Helios' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Celeste Trahan (184-85, college: Elizabeth City, agency: LBM Management) responded with 36 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and swingman Lisa Mazzocchi (170-90) scored 12 points. Helios (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Defending champion Fribourg dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Riva Basket. They were replaced at the leadership position by Helios. Fribourg will play next round against strong Riva Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Helios will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Highflyers in Luzern.
