Regular Season Round 3: Lokomotiv - Unics 48-62
Date: November 6, 2011
Everything could happen in Kuban at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Unics Kazan and 4th placed Lokomotiv had identical 1-1 record. But Lokomotiv was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Kazan 62-48 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Unics Kazan. Lokomotiv was better in fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lokomotiv to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Lokomotiv 41-27 including a 35-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international forward Kelly McCarty (201-75, college: S.Mississippi, agency: Avi Zilberman) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international center Alexey Savrasenko (215-79) contributed with 6 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Lionel Chalmers (184-80, college: Xavier) answered with 12 points and 4 steals and American-FYR Macedonian forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St.) added 8 points in the effort for Lokomotiv. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Unics Kazan (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with Spartak-Prim. Loser Lokomotiv dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Unics Kazan will have a break next round. Lokomotiv will play at home against Spartak St.Petersburg (#9).
