Regular Season Round 5: Khimky - Spartak-Prim. 82-95

Undefeated Khimky (4-1) recorded its first loss in Khimki. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Spartak-Prim. (3-1) 95-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Khimky. It looked good early as Khimky took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Spartak-Prim. had a 31-18 second period charge getting the lead and Khimky was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-95. They outrebounded Khimky 42-29 including 25 on the offensive glass. Khimky was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Torey Thomas (180-85, college: Holy Cross, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points. Power forward Konstantin Nesterov (205-81, college: VCU) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. International center Timofey Mozgov (216-86, agency: RIZO) answered with 20 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and international guard Vitaly Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) added 13 points in the effort for Khimky. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Spartak-Prim. maintains third place with 3-1 record behind leader CSKA. Khimky at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. Spartak-Prim. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Khimky will play at home against the league's leader CSKA Moscow and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
