Very important is a road loss of third ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (4-3) against eighth ranked Unics Kazan (3-3) on Friday night. Visiting Spartak St.Petersburg was defeated by Unics Kazan in Kazan 71-59. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Spartak St.Petersburg. The game was mostly controlled by Unics Kazan. Spartak St.Petersburg was better in second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spartak St.Petersburg was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American guard Terrell Lyday (190-79, college: BYU) who scored that evening 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international center Alexey Savrasenko (215-79) supported him with 13 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Even 28 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by American point guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) did not help to save the game for Spartak St.Petersburg. Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (208-84) added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Spartak St.Petersburg's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Unics Kazan moved-up to sixth place. Spartak St.Petersburg at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Lokomotiv. Unics Kazan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartak St.Petersburg will play on the road against the league's leader CSKA Moscow (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
