The Euroleague newcomer continues to impress. Unics Kazan was better than the reigning Turkish champion Fenerbahce Ulker 76-71 on Wednesday night for 1-0 score in Group G of the Euroleague Top 16. Participants of this pool are also Panathinaikos and Emporio Armani Milano. Vladimir Veremeenko was a key player in Unics with 17 points and 11 rebounds (valuation 32). Petr Samoylenko also had double-double of 16 pts and 10 assists, while Henry Domercant and Terrell Lyday were two others players with 16 points for the Russians. In Fener, Bojan Bogdanovic collected 24 points. Omer Onan had 12 and James Gist stopped to 8 pts. Unics exploded in the second half to win this game. They were down by 17 at the HT (24-41), but managed to cut the margin to 53-56 before the last quarter and after that made crucial 17-6 run. It was 70-62 with 2 minutes to go. Bojan Bogdanovic kept FB Ulker alive with a clutch triple before Omer Onan narrowed the gap to 4 from the line with 1:18 remaining. But Vladimir Veremeenko scored at the other side and practically sealed the win for Unics. In the next round, Unics will play against Panathinaikos in Athens. Fenerbahce Ulker will host Emporio Armani.
