Seventh ranked Spartak-Prim. won a double-overtime thriller edging 6th ranked Spartak St.Petersburg by eight points 96-104 on Saturday night. The game took place in St.Petersburg. But the guests from Vladivostok were better at the end. Spartak St.Petersburg was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 16-12 charge of Spartak-Prim., which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in double-overtime eventually winning that period 10-10. Spartak-Prim. forced 20 Spartak St.Petersburg turnovers. Spartak St.Petersburg was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. U.S. Virgin Isl. Forward Cuthbert Victor (196-83, college: Murray St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Torey Thomas (180-85, college: Holy Cross, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Spartak-Prim. players scored in double figures. American point guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) answered with 38 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Israeli guard Yotam Halperin (196-84) added 14 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Spartak St.Petersburg. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartak-Prim. (5-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Lokomotiv. Spartak St.Petersburg lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Spartak-Prim. will have a break next round. Spartak St.Petersburg will play again on the road against Spartak-Prim.
