Top 16 Round 4: Anadolu Efes - Olympiacos 65-67

Olympiakos was better than Anadolu Efes once again. The Reds grabbed 65-67 victory in Istanbul for 2-2 record in Group E of the Euroleague Top 16. After this victory, Olympiakos is very close to reach the Quarterfinals. At the other side, Anadolu Efes dropped to 1-3 and their chances drastically decreased. Kostas Papanikolau and Georgios Printezis scored 16 points each for the winners. They grabbed 6 and 5 rebounds respectively. Joey Dorsey (8 rebs) and Vassilis Spanoulis helped Olympiakos with 8 points apiece. The home squad got 22 points and 5 rebounds from Oliver Lafayette. Stanko Barac had 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Sasha Vujacic stopped to 8 pts. Olympiakos made 9-16 lead in the first quarter and Efes cut the margin to 32-37 at the HT. Visitor jumped to plus 9 after the breather, but later finished Q3 with 42-48. Efes opened the last ten minutes with 5-0 run, but than Kostas Papanikolau and his teammates answered with 5-14 run for 52-62 lead. However, Efes didn’t give up and Sasha Vujacic completed their impressive 13-3 run with a killer triple for 65-65 tie with 16 seconds left. Out of a timeout, Vujacic fouled Sloukas with 10 seconds left. The 22-year-old sank both free throws, and with time running out, Lafayette tried a game-winning triple that missed, letting Olympiacos go home to Greece with a good-as-gold victory. In the next round, Olympiakos will meet CSKA in Moscow. Anadolu Efes will play against Galatasaray.
