Fourteenth-ranked ZTE KK (1-18) was very close to win a game against ninth ranked Kaposvari (8-11) on Saturday. Kaposvari managed to secure only five-point victory 94-89. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-16. But ZTE KK won second period 26-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where ZTE KK used huge pressure winning it 22-19 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 4-9. Kaposvari made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Michael Fey (213-83, college: UCLA) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. Ghanian-American guard Kwadzo Ahelegbe (187-88, college: N.Iowa) accounted for 16 points, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. American swingman Tim Whitworth (198-81, college: Drexel, agency: Limelight Hoops) came up with 30 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Thomas Kelley (188-77, college: Michigan St., agency: TSS Management) added 16 points and 7 assists respectively for ZTE KK in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kaposvari moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Soproni. ZTE KK lost their seventh game in a row. Defending champion stay dead last with 18 lost games. Kaposvari will meet higher ranked Atomeromu (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ZTE KK will play against Marso NYKK (#10) in Nyiregyhaza.
