Important game to mention about took place in Cherepovec. Sixth ranked Severstal (11-12) saved a 3-point victory at home edging second-ranked Ataman (14-7) 80-77 on Saturday evening. They outrebounded Ataman 43-31 including 26 on the offensive glass. Center Maksim Polyakov (206-84, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Sergei Zakharov (194-86) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Severstal players scored in double figures. Severstal's coach Sergei Mokin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Swingman Igor Smygin (197-87, agency: Alti Sport) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Dramir Zibirov (187-86) scored 20 points. Severstal moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Ataman keeps the second position with seven games lost. Severstal will again play against league's second-placed Ataman in Rostov in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ataman will have a break next round.
