Regular Season Round 13: Spartak SP - Khimky 53-56

The most exciting game of round 13 in the PBL took place in St.Petersburg. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (5-6) to second ranked Khimky (7-2) 56-53 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 15-5 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Khimky dominated on the defensive end, holding Spartak St.Petersburg to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Khimky forced 23 Spartak St.Petersburg turnovers. Strangely Spartak St.Petersburg outrebounded Khimky 37-22 including a 32-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. Croatian forward Kresimir Loncar (210-83, agency: Alti Sport) fired 17 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (199-82) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Forward Valery Likhodey (205-86) produced 10 points and 7 rebounds and the former international swingman Aleksey Zozulin (199-83, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Khimky maintains second place with 7-2 record having five points less than leader CSKA. Spartak St.Petersburg at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Spartak-Prim.. Khimky are looking forward to face Spartak-Prim. (#8) in Vladivostok in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Spartak St.Petersburg will play at home against Lokomotiv in Kuban and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
