Regular Season Round 27: Severstal - Ataman 62-61

The most exciting game of round 27 in the Superlaegue took place in Cherepovec. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Ataman (14-8) to fifth ranked Severstal (12-12) 62-61 on Sunday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Severstal forced 22 Ataman turnovers. It was a good game for forward Aleksandr Lunev (201-80, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) who saved his team from a defeat with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Stanislav Zinchenko (203-87) contributed with 9 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Severstal's coach Sergei Mokin used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Kirill Pishchalnikov (203-87, college: VCU) answered with 16 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Igor Smygin (197-87, agency: Alti Sport) added 17 points and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Ataman. Severstal have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 12-12 record. Ataman lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the second position with eight games lost. They share it with TEMP-SUMZ. Severstal are looking forward to face Spartak V. (#8) in Moscow in the next round. Ataman will have a break next round.
