Top 16 Round 5: Cantu - FCB Regal 62-63

Regal Barcelona grabbed 62-63 thriller win in Cantu last night. It was a Round 5 of the Euroleague Top 16 phase and Barca managed to stay undefeated. They secured first place in Group H and booked a spot for the Playoffs. At the other side, Cantu dropped to 2-3 with no chance to advance. Boniface Ndong led the Spanish champs with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Juan Carlos Navarro had 12 and Erazem Lorbek added 10 points, plus 6 rebounds. The hosts got 14 points and 8 boards from Giorgi Shermadini. Doron Perkins had 12 points, 7 rebs and 5 assists, and third scorer in defeat was Maarten Leunen with 9 points. Barca made 0-9 run during the last period for 58-61 lead with something more than 5 minutes to go. Doron Perkins and Giorgi Shermadini answered with mini 4-0 run for 62-61 Cantu lead with 40 seconds remaining. Juan Carlos Navarro made two free throws with 26 seconds to go for a 62-63 Barcelona lead before Basile’s potential game-winning jumper from the right baseline went off the front of the rim and out just before the final buzzer. Quarters: 18-18, 15-17, 17-17, 12-11. Barca waits Maccabi in the last round of Top 16. Cantu will go to Kaunas.
